What are dentures?

Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth.

Although dentures may take some getting used to, modern dentistry provides a natural looking and comfortable alternative to the loss of teeth.

If you need dentures, you’ll either need full dentures or partial dentures. While it’s important to do your homework and read up on the different types of dentures, we’d strongly recommend coming into the practice for a consultation so we can look at your specific scenario and put together a custom treatment plan. In many cases, dental implants can be used to support cemented bridges, which will eliminate the need to get dentures.

Conventional Full Dentures: Process

• All of your teeth are removed
  
• Your gym tissue goes through a month(s) long healing process without teeth in place
• Once the extraction site is healed, your custom dentures will be put in place

Immediate Full Dentures: Process

• Measurements are taken so that your dentures can be fitted perfectly to your mouth
  
• Your teeth are removed
• Your dentures are placed in the mouth directly after removal
• Unlike conventional dentures, you will spend no time without teeth
• You will have a follow-up visit for the refitting of your dentures as your jaw bone will marginally alter shape throughout the healing process
• Your dentures will be tightened once your jaw is fully healed

Partial Dentures: Process

• Partial dentures will be put in place when you are missing some teeth but not all—similar to a bridge
  
• They are not permanent fixtures in the mouth and can be taken out
