Endodontics

Do you have a specific tooth that hurts? Maybe even more than one tooth? You may have a cavity that has spread to your tooth’s nerve, causing an infection...

"Endo" is the Greek word for “inside” while, "odont" is the Greek word for “tooth”. Endodontists are dentists who specialize in saving your natural teeth. By looking inside an infected tooth, at the dental pulp and tissues that surround the roots of a tooth, endodontists can deal with the removal of infected nerves. Root canal therapy and procedures can range in degrees of difficulty and most general dentists will do in-house procedures for those cases that are not overly complicated.

You’ll often need a root canal when you have an untreated cavity that has spread to the pulp of your tooth and caused an infection in your nerves. If the infection is left untreated it can turn into an abscess (a more serious issue that can result in bone loss in the jaw).

If you have one or more teeth that are sensitive and/or in pain, please contact us to schedule an exam so that we can understand the root of your pain.

Breaking down the stigma

The stigma that a root canal procedure is painful and agonizing is often false. In actuality, root canal therapy is given to those hoping to relieve pain and suffering.

Truths

Like with routine dental procedures, there may be some soreness after your visit. Ultimately once this pain subsides, you should feel relief from your infection and you’ll be able to enjoy your day-to-day life without of the pain you previously had to cope with.
